A rehearsal of the Oklahoma City OK Chorale

Sing With Us

The OK Chorale rehearses every Monday night from 7:00pm until 9:30pm at Overholser Elementary School, located on the SE corner of NW 36th & Council in Oklahoma City (map). Don't let inexperience deter you! We'll be happy to teach you everything you need to know! The fun and fellowship come naturally.

If you'd like to attend a rehearsal, either to sing with us or to simply observe, it might be a good idea to call 848-SING (7464) or e-mail info@okchorale.org first to confirm that some unusual circumstance hasn't forced us to cancel or reschedule the rehearsal you're planning to attend. But if you wish to show up unannounced, that's fine too!

If you'd like to sing with us during our shows and other events, you'll need to pass a brief audition. That audition is normally held after you've sung with us in three rehearsals, and it involves singing any song of your choice in a quartet. Don't worry — you don't audition before the entire chorus! It's normally conducted in a somewhat private setting. During the audition a member of our Music Committee will listen for the quality of your voice, your range, and your ability to sing in tune.

The OK Chorale competes in Barbershop Harmony Society competitions. If you wish to sing with us at those events, you must join the Barbershop Harmony Society, the Southwest District, and the OK Chorale. Dues in 2005 are $125 per year, and there is a $10 one-time-only initiation fee.

If you're curious about the OK Chorale or about the barbershop style, we encourage you to attend one of our rehearsals. We'll give you a non-threatening opportunity to sing with the chorus, and with a quartet if you'd like. But be forewarned: Once you experience the thrill of singing with a barbershop chorus or quartet, you'll be hooked. It's happened to all of us. Don't be surprised when it happens to you too!
